The 2011 Annual Reunion

The 2011 annual reunion was held at the Victory Services Club in London on 3rd September 2011.

The event was scheduled to have taken place at Coningsby in May but had to be cancelled due to the short notice deployment of XI for operations over Libya.

24 Association members gathered with 7 current members for a 3 course meal held in the Trafalgar room at the Club.We managed at least one member from every evolution of the Squadron since 1938 - Blenheim - Hurricane - Spitfire - Mosquito -Vampire - Venom - Javelin - Lightning - Tornado and Typhoon.

Once again the Victory Club did us proud with their hosting of the event.

We were honoured to have our Patron ACM Sir Michael Graydon and President AVM Collins join us. Also the brand new OC XI Wg Cdr Rich Wells together with outgoing boss Wg Cdr Jezz Attridge. Chairman Group Captain Tony Innes ensured cohesion to the speeches and presentations.

5 of our WW2 members were able to join us and as ever their presence is both invaluable and a great pleasure for all to talk to them.

Particularly welcome this year were 7 members of the current XI who were on a very short turnround in UK before their redeployment on operations. We are in gratitude to Flt Lyt Guy Lockwood

for giving us a quite short notice update of the Squadrons participation in the Libyan events. Group Captain Innes pointed out that this was particulary fitting as it was the first time that XI had

released a weapon in anger since Peter Proctor was doing the same job over Burma in 1945 !

Speeches were made by Group Captain Innes and also a few words from Sir Michael and a very welcome and expected joke from AVM Collins.

Wg Cdr Attridge made a speech as departing boss and was presented with a signed photo of Burma Hurricanes by Peter Proctor. I would like to take this opportunity again to thank Jez for his

tremendous support and enthusiasm for association members and reunions.
